Beer - Now with Bull Balls

by:Trano     2020-05-24
We'll return to our regularly scheduled article, but first let's take this Joke break: You've got to have a lot of balls to brew a beer like this.Got cojones? The guys who came up with this one are pretty ballsy. We're talking about Denver's Wynkoop Brewing Co. A while back they sent out a press release alerting the media that they would be selling a new product at their Colorado eatery. A beer infused with bull balls. They made the announcement on April 1st. Get it? April Fool's Day. Trip forward a few months. Yanked from the brewpub's own website, here's splooge in your eye: ' ... when we sent out the press release and the video link last April, we heard from brewers and beer writers who thought the beer was for real and loved the idea. They wanted samples. So did many patrons who came to the pub to try the beer. 'So we've turned our joke into a reality. 'As we joked in the video, we really do love to make beer with uniquely local ingredients. Rocky Mountain Oysters (aka fried bull testicles) are arguably our state's most popular local dish. They've also been enjoyed by humans for centuries. So they're a dream-come-true ingredient for a Wynkoop beer. 'The 8-barrel batch also included 25 pounds of bull testicles that were sliced by hand and then roasted (by Wynkoop sous chef Andrew Langlo) before being added to the beer's mash.' Ironically, the stuff is called Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout. And downing a mug will give you an ABV of a 7% kick in the nuts. Wynkoop also notes that the beer is 3 BPB. Balls per Barrel. You'll have to shag-it to Denver to get a taste as it's only available at their restaurant. That's why we have to take the company's word for it when they say it's ... '... an assertive foreign-style stout, slightly viscous, with a deep brown color. It has equally deep flavors of chocolate syrup, Kahlua, and espresso, along with a palpable level of alcohol and a savory umami-like note. It finishes dry and roasted with a fast-fading hop bite.' Where did they get the gonads to do such a thing? In all truth the testes came from Denver's Castle Rock Meats. That's one of the Mile High City's primo mountain oyster suppliers. Up for the video produced by the brewers? Unclench your jaw and click upon the link if you have the requisite balls: http://youtu.be/y1fV3edEdfE
